The single most common drainage failure in Northern Kentucky is a downspout dumping water within three feet of a foundation. It’s cheap to fix and it prevents most foundation problems. Spencer’s Outdoor Solutions installs four kinds of downspout drainage:

  • Buried rigid PVC extensions — 4″ schedule 40 PVC from the downspout, buried at 12–18″ depth, extended to daylight (a drain outlet on a slope) or to a dry well. The permanent solution.
  • Pop-up emitters — spring-loaded green cap at the daylight end that stays flush with the lawn and pops up only when water pushes through. Prevents rodent entry, hides the outlet.
  • Splash blocks and surface extensions — cheapest option, 4–6 feet of surface pipe. Works for gentle slopes but freezes in winter and gets in the way of mowing.
  • French drain integration — when there’s no daylight to reach, downspouts tie into a French drain that carries water to a lower spot in the yard or a dry well.
